Arctic char

Arctic char are related to salmon. Like salmon, they are anadromous, gorging themselves on the abundance of the ocean before entering freshwater rivers to spawn.

However, unlike salmon, char prefer to live in freshwater and only migrate to the ocean once every two years or so to feed. They gorge themselves on sand lance and other food for six to eight weeks before returning to freshwater. During this saltwater feeding spree, the char increase their body weight by as much as 30 per cent.

So the char found in the salty waters of Ungava Bay are there primarily to feed and during this period of their lives the fish are most aggressive and strong.

Get ready to do battle with a powerful opponent.
